Should I choose the biggest Korean law firm in Korea?
Hi, it's Carl Kwan here. So, in this article I'm going to be talking about this question, I'm going to be answering this question for you: Should I choose the biggest Korean law firm in Korea?
Obviously this is for those of you that are looking for a Korean law firm.
So, what will be covered in this article? Well, I'm going to be talking about the criteria for choosing a Korean law firm; I want to talk about some of the advantages of going with the biggest law firm; I'm also going to give you a recommendation.
So, here are the criteria that I would go for:
What are your needs? First of all, ask yourself this question, "What do I actually want to do? Why do I actually want a Korean lawyer?"
So, if you've got some multi-national deal; if you're going to be doing some sort of M&A; or maybe you've got some big foreign direct investment deal that's going to be going on in Korea.
Well, in that case you just might want to go with a larger law firm that specializes in that area.
So, there are some advantages to that, of course. Number one, it's a good signal to your Korean business partners to show just how serious you are if you go with a bigger law firm. The reason why is, of course, with a bigger law firm you get a bigger price tag and also a bigger reputation. This makes a really big difference because there's a huge amount of social proof that comes into play when you're dealing with Korean business people. The more powerful or authoritative someone looks or if you've got a bigger Korean law firm, this can offer a form of social proof that can be an advantage to you.
But here are my recommendations: Go with needs first. Figure out what you need first. Then go on experience. Figure out what the Korean law firms have in terms of experience. And then from there look at their track record, as well. Look at the law firm and the lawyers' track records and see if those are a good fit for your needs.
So, briefly what I talked about in this article was the criteria for choosing a big Korean law firm, whether you should go with a big law firm or not. Number one was always to ask yourself, "What are my needs?"
Secondly, I talked about the advantages of going with a bigger Korean law firm. I mentioned two key things, which were the reputation and the social proof that you get from going with a bigger law firm.
And finally, I gave you my recommendation which was to go on experience and track record.
So, hopefully that was helpful to you. If you want more information about hiring a Korean law firm or lawyer in Korea look for my upcoming articles.
